Abstract

966,623. Boxes for fragile articles; packages. LEONARD GOULD & CO. Ltd. June 10, 1963 [March 8, 1962], No. 9018/62. Headings B8C and B8P. A concentric series of parts 7 in a shockabsorbant cushion 1 are removable to form a nest for a fragile article. In the form shown, two sets of cushioning blocks 1 are wrapped with corrugated cardboard 2 and are adjustable longitudinally to support the article at its upper and lower ends only and to accommodate articles of different lengths. The overlapped parts of cardboard 8 may be stitched together. In an alternative embodiment the pack consists of a number of superimposed cushioning blocks wrapped with cardboard which is cut away at the top to insert the article and the cardboard extends around a further non-cut block which forms a cover to the article. The lowermost block in the pack may also be uncut. The cutouts are preferably of star or cruciform shape. The cushioning material may be rubberized hair, wood wool, sponge rubber or foamed plastics which may be polyurethane. If wood wool or rubberized hair is used the material may be set to shape by spraying with a suitable fixing agent.
