Abstract
965,981. Stethoscopes. D. LITTMANN, and G. F. MACHLUP, [trading as FIRM CARDIOSONICS MEDICAL INSTRUMENT CO.]. Sept. 17, 1962 [June 12, 1962], No. 35384/62. Heading A5R. A stethoscope comprises rigid ear tubes joined by a flexible Y tube and urged together by a spring located within the Y-tube and attached to the ends of the ear tubes. In a preferred form the end of each ear tube 45, Fig. 4, is cut away at one side to provide edges 19 against which a leaf-spring 50 is located. Longitudinal displacement of the spring is prevented by lugs 21 left projecting from the edges 19 and engaging recesses in the edges of the spring. The assembly is held together by a tubular sleeve 40 crimped into position and the ear tubes are then threaded through the Y-tube 14, Fig. 3, until they reach their desired position. In an alternative construction two blade springs are used face to face, of which only the outer one is positively located by the lugs on the ear tubes.
