965,940. Lighting devices. ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS TUZET, and J. WETZEL. Jan. 30, 1962 [Feb. 3, 1961], No. 3416/62. Heading F4R. A lighting device in which the intensity of the emitted light can be gradually increased or decreased comprises a fixed substantially rectilinear light source, shutters disposed in front of the source which by moving in a direction parallel thereto uncover an aperture of adjustable width and reflecting means receiving the rays from the source and dispersing them throughout the illuminated surface irrespective of the width of the aperture. In the form shown, a lamp 2 having a long axial filament is disposed in a casing on front of a cylindrical reflector 5, a series of reflecting blades 4 being arranged in front of the lamp. A pair of shutters 6a, 6b are arranged between the source 2 and the blades 4 being moved symmetrically towards or away from one another by nuts engaging oppositely-threaded screws 8a, 8b which may form part of a single shaft. The screws are driven by a motor 9 through reduction gearing 10. The motor may also drive a fan 14 for cooling the light source. In a modification, the blades are arranged between the shutters and the light source.
