Abstract

Chemical products produced by reacting less than 1 mol and preferably between 0.8 and 0.95 mol of epichlorohydrin or of -dichlorohydrin with 1 mol of a di- or polyamine the amino groups of which are separated by at least 3 carbon atoms, are added to paper pulp in order to increase the degree of retention in the paper product of fillers e.g. titanium dioxide and organic colouring pigment which are also added to the paper pulp. Di- or polyamines which are particularly suitable include Y,Y1-diaminopropylalkylamines the alkyl radical of which contains about 1-6 carbon atoms, such as Y,Y1-diaminopropyl-methylamine and Y, Y1-diaminopropyl - butylamine. Other di- or polyamines on which the reaction products may be based include tri-, tetra- or hexamethylenediamine; 1, 3 - diamino - butane; 2 hydroxyl-1, 3-diaminopropane; dipropylene-triamine; dihydroxy - dipropylene - triamine; tetrapropylenepentamine; N, N1-diaminopropyltetramethylene - diamine; and 1, 6, 11 triamino -n-undecane. To obtain the reaction products referred to the reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of a diluent e.g. water at temperatures between 20 DEG C. and 70 DEG C.ALSO:Chemical products produced by reacting less than 1 mol and preferably between 0.8 and 0.95 mol of epichlorohydrin or of -dichlorohydrin with 1 mol of a di- or polyamine the amino groups of which are separated by at least 3 carbon atoms, are added to paper pulp in order to increase the degree of retention in the paper product of fillers e.g. titanium dioxide and organic colouring pigment which are also added to the paper pulp. Di- or polyamines which are particularly suitable include g ,g 1-diaminopropylalkylamines the alkyl radical of which contains about 1-6 carbon atoms, such as g ,g 1diamino-propyl-methylamine and g ,g 1 diaminopropyl-butylamine. Other di- or polyamines on which the reaction products may be based include tri-, tetra- or hexamethylenediamine; 1, 3-diaminobutane; 2 hydroxyl-1, 3 diaminopropane; dipropylenetriamine; dihydroxy-dipropylene-triamine; tetrapropylenepentamine; N, N1-diaminopropyl-tetramethylene-diamine; and 1, 6, 11 triamino-n-undecane. To obtain the reaction products referred to the reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of a diluent e.g. water at temperatures between 20 DEG C. and 70 DEG C.
