Abstract

An endless woven fabric suitable for use as a papermachine felt is made at least predominantly of synthetic fibre-forming material, and is characterized in that the fabric is woven of warp yarns composed at least predominantly of synthetic fibreforming material in the form of filaments or staplelength fibre and of weft yarns consisting at least predominantly of a spun blend of crimped synthetic fibres relatively non-shrinkable by heat and other synthetic fibres which are initially capable of high lengthwise shrinkage when subjected to heat, but have been shrunk in situ after weaving. The spin blend comprises a mixture of different fibres in one and the same spun yarn as distinct from a twisted or doubled combination of different yarns or filaments. The shrinkable fibres may be of polyester; the non-shrinkable fibres may be of nylon or polyester. The warp yarns may be of hightenacity continuous-filament nylon or polyester, a core of continuous nylon or polyester fibres overwrapped with textured continuous filaments of nylon or polyester, or are spun from crimped or uncrimped synthetic staple fibres such as nylon or polyester. The fabric may be milled and may incorporate up to 30% of wool fibres, e.g. in the warp yarns as a wrapping round a core of continuous filament nylon or polyester, or in the weft. One or both surfaces may be raised and needled before or after shrinking or both. The fabric may be woven endless, or woven as a length and the ends joined. The terms "warp" and "weft" relate to yarns along and across the finished endless product. Specification 810,003 is referred to.
