Abstract

963,351. Starting forced flow steam boilers; feedwater heating. SULZER FRERES S.A. Jan. 30, 1963 [Jan. 30, 1962], No. 3894/63. Heading F4A. A steam power plant comprising a oncethrough boiler supplying steam to a turbine is started up by supplying water heated in a feedwater tank by external steam, separating the steam-water mixture issuing from the evaporator, passing the steam to a superheater and some at least of the separated water to the condenser through a heat exchanger disposed between the condenser and the feed tank. In the form shown the boiler has an economizer 2, an evaporator 3, a preliminary superheater 4, final superheaters 5, 6 and a reheater 7. The superheaters 4, 5 are connected by a pipe 8 in which is a valve 12 serving as a by-pass valve for a separator 10. The boiler supplies steam to a turbine 14, 17 exhausting to a condenser 19 from which a pump 20 delivers condensate through bled-steam heaters 22, 23 and a heatexchanger 30 to a feed tank 24 having an external steam supply 25. The boiler feed pump 26a delivers water from the tank through high pressure heaters 27, 28 to the boiler. During starting, the valve 12 is closed and steam is supplied to the feedwater tank through the line 25. Hot feedwater is pumped through the boiler sections 2 . . . 4 into the separator 10. Steam flows therefrom through the superheaters 5, 6 to the turbines whilst water flows through a pipe 29 to the heat-exchanger 30 and thence to the condenser.
