Abstract

963,152. Telescopic pit props. K. T. JASPER. Nov. 14, 1960 [Nov. 20, 1959], No. 39013/60. Heading E1E. A telescopic pit prop comprises an inner member 10 which is slotted at 24 and disposed in an outer member 11 so as to leave a gap therebetween for the reception of conical friction inserts 12, 13. The inserts are urged against stop pins 15 by a screwthreaded ring 16 or a wedge acted upon by a screwthreaded flange or other means, see Fig. 2 (not shown) and descriptive part of Specification. The inserts 12, 13 are provided with at least one slot 25, the slots of adjacent inserts being staggered relative to one another. The prop may be set by a wedge 29 bearing on an end plate 26 or by pneumatic or hydraulic fluid acting on collars 27 bolted to the plate 26. The inserts are made of copper, bronze, plastic or fibrous material.
