Abstract

962,381. Flexible hoses. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. March 14, 1963 [April 26, 1962 ; Sept. 10, 1962], No. 10204/63. Heading F2P. A flexible, reinforced tubular structure comprises a tubular member 5 of an elastomer positioned between a pair of spaced reinforcing members, 3 and 7, the elastomer having therein a multitude of flexible filaments to inhibit the flow of the elastomer during vulcanisation whereby the reinforcing members 3 and 5 are inhibited from contacting each other when the resulting hose 1 is flexed. The hose 1 consists of an inner elastomeric tube 2 inside the reinforcing layers described and has an outer cover layer 9 also of an elastomer. The reinforcing layers consist of braided tubes of single or multiple strands of a metallic or non-metallic material. The filaments are short lengths of fibres, strands, monofilaments, yarns &c. of textile, metallic, glass, plastic, cellulosic, ceramic &c. material, randomly dispersed throughout the elastomeric layer 5.
