Abstract
The invention comprises the reaction products of polyamines or partially acylated polyamines with esters of the formula: <FORM:0962242/C1/1> and especially those products of formulae: <FORM:0962242/C1/2> and <FORM:0962242/C1/3> where in these formulae R1, R2 and R3 are hydrogen or alkyl, R4 is alkyl, R5 is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon group, X is polyalkylene or a group: <FORM:0962242/C1/4> (where n is 0, 1 or 2), Y is polyalkylene or a group: <FORM:0962242/C1/5> (where m is 0, 1 or 2) and Z is a saturated or unsaturated acyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon group of 1-17 carbon atoms; and the production of such compounds by reacting the ester of the first formula above with the polyamine or partially acylated polyamine, e.g. with X(NH2)2, or with Y(NH2)2 followed by reaction with ZCOOH or an ester thereof, or with NH2YNHCOZ. The products are hardening agents for epoxide resins (see Division C3). Specification 960,622 is referred to.ALSO:Hardening agents for epoxide resins comprise the reaction products (amides) of polyamines or partially acylated polyamines with esters of formula: <FORM:0962242/C3/1> where R1, R2 and R3 are hydrogen or alkyl, R4 is alkyl, and R5 is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon group. Preferred products are the diamides obtained from the above ester and X(NH2)2 where X is polyalkylene or: <FORM:0962242/C3/2> (where n is 0, 1 or 2), and the monoamide derived from the above ester and the amine: NH2YNHCOZ, where Y is polyalkylene or: <FORM:0962242/C3/3> (where m is 0, 1 or 2) and Z is a saturated or unsaturated acyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon group of 1-17 carbon atoms. The invention also comprises hardenable compositions comprising a hardening agent as above and an epoxide containing on average more than one epoxide group per molecule, and hardened compositions obtained by curing such compositions. Suitable epoxide resins are polyglycidyl esters and ethers, e.g. diglycidyl adipate and phthalate, ethylene glycol and resorcinol diglycidyl ethers, and resins of formulae <FORM:0962242/C3/4> Other acids and alcohols from which glycidyl esters and ethers may be obtained are listed. Specification 960,622 is referred to.
