Abstract

957,792. Stop motion. E. JACOBI, and H. BECK, [trading as ERNST JACOBI & CO. KOM. GES.]. Sept, 16, 1960 [Feb.19, 1960], No. 31902/60. Heading D1D. In a stop motion mechanism for a spinning frame of the kind having an intercepter in an air stream to catch fly from a sliver breakage, the fly is received on a moving element (e.g. the surface of a revolving drum) by which it is moved to engage and operate a switch mechanism to stop the frame. In Fig. 3 tufts 15 of fibres sucked away from a breakage are received on the teeth of a series of thin parallel discs 5 mounted fixedly on a driven shaft 2 in a suction table 1. A pivoted member 8 normally has its lugs 10 extending between the discs 5 but it is lifted in the event of a thread breakage by the tufts 15 which are subsequently blown clear of the discs by the air stream. The member 8 when lifted operates a switch 12, 13 which in turn effects stoppage of the machine. The discs 5 have roughened edges and their separation in the spindle 2 may be adjustable. A resilient cover may be placed between the suction tube and the switch to prevent dirtying of the contacts. In Fig. 6 in which the tufts 15<SP>1</SP> are caught on a drawn 17 having a wall of fine mesh and lift a plain member 18 to operate the machine stopping switch, the inside of the drum 17 is divided into compartments 21, 22 and a suction blower is mounted between them so that the pressure in 21 is lowered to improve adhesion of the tufts and the pressure in 22 is raised to assist in removal of the tufts. A solid drum roller having a roughened, fibre holding surface may alternatively be used. The member 8 or 18 may be of a plastics material or light metal and it may be counterbalanced by spring action or by a weighting arrangement.
