Abstract
957,320. Dielectric heating apparatus. RADYNE Ltd. Sept. 17, 1962 [Sept. 15, 1961], No. 33196/61. Heading H5H. Dielectric heating apparatus for heating rolls of material comprises upper and lower electrodes, the lower electrode including at least two conductive parallel rollers 2, 3 and means for rotating them to rotate a roll of material 1 positioned on them with its axis parallel to that of the rollers, the upper electrode following the contour of roll 1 to some extent. As shown, the upper electrode consists of two plates 7, 8, which may be curved and which may be adjustable. The two plates may be hinged to provide angular adjustment or replaced by a single shaped plate. The upper electrode is connected through conductor 9 to the live terminal of the generator and rollers 2, 3 are electrically connected through supports 4, 5 and base-plate 6 to the earthed terminal of the generator. There may be capacitive coupling between rollers 2, 3 and base-plate 6 instead of electrical contact. Means may be provided for altering the angular spacing of the rollers to accommodate rolls of different diameters. Rollers 2, 3 are driven by a chain from a motor.
