Abstract

957,253. Reels &c. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. April 24, 1963 [Aug. 22, 1962], No. 32332/62. Heading B8M. The flanges of a bobbin made of organic thermoplastic material are moulded about a thin metal reinforcing sheet 7. Each flange comprises a rim 4, a base portion 5, radial fins 10 and 19, an annular web 14 and plugs 15 located at the intersections of the web 14 and fins 10 and extending through apertures in the sheet 7 which is preferably of tinplate. The bobbins are moulded in two parts, each containing a flange and joined by spin welding. The bobbin has a knurled exterior surface 24 while each half of the bobbin has a spindle engaging portion 21 reinforced by webs 22 on one or both sides (Fig. 5, not shown).
