Abstract

956,704. Taximeters. KIENZLE APPARATE G.m.b.H. July 22,1960 [Dec. 16, 1959], No. 42774/59. Heading G4T. A taximeter has fare indicating drums 13 driven by a distance drive 21 and a time drive 19 set into and out of operation by an electromechanical switching arrangement remotely controlled from a switch board 8 near the driver's seat. The electro-mechanical switching arrangement comprises a control shaft 27 which can be rotated in either sense by a motor 28. Pressing a button F closes contacts TV, energizes a relay B, allows current to pass one way through the armature coil M of the motor 28 and thence through the stator coil N. The shaft 27 turns, a cam H thereon closes contacts to energize a relay C with delay, the contacts open, the relay B and coil M are shortcircuited; until relay C falls off the stator coil N receives current and brakes the motor so that the shaft 27 stops in a defined position appropriate, say, to tariff I. In this way the shaft 27 can be indexed to several defined positions in which the distance and time drives are set into and out of operation. Pressing a button R closes contacts TR, energizes a relay A and allows current to pass the opposite way through the armature coil M so that the motor drives the shaft 27 in the opposite sense, enabling indexing of the shaft 27 in this direction. Lamps 18 on the switchboard 8 and 42 to 45 in the near part 40 of the taximeter indicate which position of the shaft 27 is operative. Drums 14 indicating "extras" are advanced by relays energized upon passing an "extras" button 16 on the switch board so long as contacts Z are held closed by cams on the shaft 27 which is so in each defined position except the "for hire" position. The "for hire" position is indicated by the illumination of lamp 17 on the switchboard 8, lamps 41 at the back of the taximeter and lamp 46 on the roof of the vehicles. The vehicle battery 47 supplies the current over parallel lines controlled by the ignition switch G and a switch S opened by a cam on the shaft 27 in the "for hire" position. An interupter relay may be included in the electromechanical switching circuitry to open the motor circuit and prevent it being burnt out should one of the buttons F, R be permanently pressed in. Specifications 772,797, 832,755 and 861,895 are referred to.
