[Also in Division B8] In a clamping mechanism, mounted on the lifting carriage of a lift truck (see Division B8), load engaging pads 36, 54 are pivotally mounted on clamp arms 26, 28 by means of torsion members for resiliently maintaining the pads in predetermined positions relative to the arms. As shown in Fig. 4, a hinge pin 38 passes through lugs 72, 74, 76 on the pad 36 and through sleeves 78, 80 on the arm 26 and is secured at one end by a pin to the lug 72 and adjacent the other end by a pin to the sleeve 80 so that the pin 38 acts as a torsion member to resiliently maintain the pad in an intermediate pivotal position. The pivotal movement of the pad 36 is limited by rods 40 pivoted at one end to lugs 44, 46 and at their opposite ends provided with a cross-bar 88 engaging guides 90 secured within the arm 26. The pad 54 is connected similarly to the arm 28 by a hinge pin 56 and the pivotal movement of the pad is limited by rods 58 which are pivoted to the pad and which are provided with a cross-bar 106 engaging guides 108 on the arm 28.
