Abstract
955,371. Transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. June 1, 1962 [June 5, 1961], No. 21205/62. Heading HIT. A cavity is formed round a winding of a transformer or inductor during encapsulation and the cavity is then filled with fluid dielectric. In Fig. 2, 14, 16 are core members and 22 is the low voltage winding having inter-layer insulation 34 and leads 26. The open side of former 28 which carries high voltage winding 20 is closed by film 36 which may be of glass reinforced polyester. Tubes 40 are sealed through holes in the ends of the former and the winding assembly is then encapsulated in material 38. The cavity formed around winding 20 is evacuated through one of the tubes and a fluid dielectric is fed through the other tube, both tubes being sealed on completion of the impregnation. A flexible expansion chamber may be provided for the fluid.
