955,140. Disc brakes. GIRLING Ltd. Dec. 19, 1960 [Dec. 18, 1959], No. 43187/59. Heading F2E. A spot type disc brake a caliper housing consists of a rigid rectangular inner plate 45 bent to a shallow Vee form to which hydraulic cylinder blocks 46 on opposite sides of the brake disc are secured, the plate 45 having a slot for the passage of a periphery of the brake disc. A sheet metal pressing 48, bent to form an inverted Vee form, is provided on the radially outer sides of the blocks 46 and welded at 49 to the ends of plate 45 to rigidly hold the blocks 46. A central opening is provided in the pressing 48 to permit the insertion and removal of the friction pads 51 through the opening. Specification 881,423 is referred to.
