A bannister rail cover comprises a channel of generally C-shaped cross-section which is provided along its edges with out-turned lips, and will fit on to the bannister rail after pressure has been exerted and will remain in position gripping the sides of the bannister rail. The cover may be made of plastic material which may be transparent or coloured.
