Abstract

Wire rope is coated with a heat-curable adhesive, the solvent removed from the adhesive, the adhesive cured, a further coating of a thermoplastic resin plastisol applied and the wire finally heated to cure the plastisol and bond it to the cured adhesive. The preferred adhesive is a mixture of uncured phenolformaldehyde resin, nitrile rubber and sulphur in an organic solvent: the plastisol may be of polyvinyl chloride. Both coatings may be applied by passing the rope through a bath of coating composition.
