Abstract
954,359. Violins. Y. MENUHIN, and E. M. GOLDBERGER. May 23,1960 [June 4, 1959; May 19, 1960], No. 18066/60. Heading G5J. A tail-piece 8 and a chin rest 21 are both secured to a reinforced button in the tail block 5 of a violin. The button comprises a bushing 6 of plastic or wood and a steel core 7. The chin rest is formed with a recess 22, Fig. 2, so that it rests on the violin body above the block 5 at both sides of a strap 18 securing the tail-piece. The chin rest is clear of the tail-piece and is held by a tensioning screw 26 engaging the button at one end and an L-shaped bracket 24 at the other. The bracket 24 is secured to the base of the chin rest by screws 25. The tail-piece 8, which may be of wood or of plastic, is linked to the button by a strap 18 the two ends of which pass through holes 17 in a yoke 16 and are secured by nuts 20. The yoke is adjustably secured to the tail-piece by a screw 14 engaging a stud 12 in the tail-piece.
