Abstract
954,175. Flower pots; watering plants. F. L. JONSSON. Feb. 27, 1963, No. 7809/63. Heading A1E. Apparatus for irrigating flower pots comprises a reservoir 1 defined by cupshaped walls 20, 21 which communicates via opening 5 with a well 3 around which are supports 24 for the flowerpot. A pipe 4 communicating with an air space in reservoir 1 opens into well 3 beneath the normal water level therein so that a fall in the water level allows air to flow through the pipe and water to flow in through opening 5. A rod 14 having at its lower end spaced wicks 10, 12 extends into an extension 25 of well 3 so that one of the wicks is in contact with a layer 13 of absorbent material on the supports 24. The wall 20 may be of transparent flexible plastics material in which case the reservoir 1 is filled through the central cavity 22, wall 20 being flexed inwardly and then released so that water is sucked into reservoir 1 through the pipe 4 and opening 5. In a modification a wick extends through pipe 4 and has one end in well 3 and the other at the base of the reservoir. The reservoir 1 may also be filled through a filler opening at its upper end.
