Abstract

<PICT:0954137/C3/1> <PICT:0954137/C3/2> <PICT:0954137/C3/3> Wood shavings charged from a spredder 4 (Figs. 1 and 2) are formed into a loose bed and transported to a preliminary pressing station 20 wherein the bed is supported on three sides only by means of a device comprising a track formed by a continuously moving endless chain 6 and an intermittently moving endless chain 9 and a series of moveable front and rear head walls 12 and 14, front head walls 12 being attached to endless chain 6 and so passing round sprockets 7 and 8 and rear walls 14 being transported by means of hooks 13 and 15 attached to chains 6 and 9 respectively and so passing round sprockets 7 and 11 via pressing station 20. The relative speeds of chains 6 and 9 and the time of pressing are adjusted to enable successive take over of rear head walls 14 by hooks 15 from hooks 13 and vice versa. In a modification (Fig. 3) sprocket 11 is co-axial with sprocket 8 so that rear head walls do not pass through the pressing station.
