953,932. Windings for dynamo-electric machines. N. PENSABENE. Feb. 5, 1963 [Nov. 6, 1961], No. 39635/61. Heading H2A. To equalize the reactance of the phasewindings in a planar-air-gap machine, each phase winding consists of two coils, one lying in a top slot position and the other in a bottom slot position to produce a two-layer winding. That is to say, the phases are equally distributed between the two layers. Thus, phase I comprises a coil CI<SP>1</SP> in shallow slots 1 and 3, and a second coil (not shown) lying in deep slots 4 and 6 below the top-layer coils. The tops of the deep slots may be filled with copper blocks to damp leakage flux.
