Abstract
953,884. Band brakes; wire strainers. SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 15, 1960, No. 24824/60. Headings F2E and F2G. A wire tension control, for use in stringing aerial transmission lines, has at least one stringer wheel 2 round which the line 15 is wound, and an air compressor 6 which acts to control the speed of the stringer wheel. The wheel drives the compressor which supplies a pipe 7 in which is a valve 8 set to allow a predetermined pressure in the pipe ; if this is exceeded, due to cessation of paying out of the line, the valve closes, causing the pressure in the pipe to build up and operate a brake band 11 on the stringer wheel.
