[Also in Division G3] A regulator for I.C. engine fuel injection pumps. comprises a three-dimensional cam 8, Fig. 2, acting on the pump regulating rod 6, the cam being disposed with its axis parallel to the axis of a speed indicating device 2 and is displaceable along its axis in dependence on engine speed and is rotatable about its axis in dependence on the position of the throttle valve 50, a lever linkage 1 which increases the displacement of the cam with respect to that of the speed indicating device, and a second lever linkage 4 arranged so that the transmission ratio between the angle of rotation of the throttle valve and the angle of rotation of the cam gradually decreases as the throttle valve opening increases. As engine speed rises outward movement of balls 12 (Fig. 1 not shown) moves hollow bell 10 to cause axial movement of the cam through pivoted lever 1. The combined angular and axial movements of the cam are sensed by lever 7 and are transmitted through lever 28, to a lever 27 pivoted about pin 25, to move the fuel pump regulating rod 6. A thermostat 17 acts through a travel limiter 21 and lever system 22a, 22b, 24 to displace pivot pin 25 in accordance with engine temperature, An element 20 which detects ambient temperature controls a temperature-sensitive capsule 19 connected to a barometer capsule 18 which together act through levers 30a, 30 to displace pin 25 in arcuate slot 26 in accordance with changes in ambient temperature.
