Abstract

A sliding window or door comprising a window or door frame 2 and a window or door pane or panel 4, the pane or panel being held within the frame by at least one support rod 6, the arrangement being such that the supporting rod(s) allow(s) the pane or panel to move between: ```a first closed position where said pane or panel is substantially surrounded by said frame; ```a second intermediate, or venting, position wherein a relatively small rotation of said pane or panel and supporting rod(s) about a first axis 11 brings the pane or panel to a radial orientation defining a second axis along which the pane or panel is slidably movable; and ```a third, open, position wherein the pane or panel has been displaced along the second axis such that at least a part of the pane or panel lies outside the frame. The support rods are telescopic 6a, 6b guided by a housing 7. A handle 8 causes the first movement of the pane.
