Abstract

951,724. Artificial respiration. W. RUSCH. July 24, 1962 [May 12, 1962], No. 28427/62. Heading A5T. A respiration tube for use in mouth-tomouth resuscitation is branched at its outer end, one branch serving for the introduction of air to the patient's lungs while the other is used for the patient's exhalation. In one form, the tube 1 is of soft, flexible rubber or similar material of sufficient length to be introduced beyond the patient's pharynx and it has a branch connection 4 leading to the inflation tube 3, the free end of which is taken in the operator's mouth. The exhaled air from the patient is passed out directly through an outlet 5. During the inflating phase this outlet is closed by the operator's finger and, to facilitate holding it, the outside of the tube is enlarged or provided with a flange. If desired, the forked branch-piece may be made separate from the insertable tube, one being a push-fit in the other, and the inflating tube may be made of smaller bore than the main tube and may be continued to the lower end of the latter.
