Abstract
951,705. Automatic gramophones; improper use, preventing. UNITED MUSIC CORPORATION. Feb. 21, 1962, No. 6775/62. Heading G5R. A cut-off device in an automatic gramophone comprises a trigger tripped by the tone arm when reaching a cut-off position, said trigger being provided with a trip abutment in the path of a trip member secured to the tone arm, and with a holding surface for engagement with a yieldable cutoff member. As applied to a juke-box in which records are brought into engagement with the stylus 4 by the elevation of the turntable under the influence of an arm 32 and motor driven linkage 35, 36, the said yieldable member is the blade 18 of a switch controlling the automatic cycle at the end of a record. During playing of a record, the mechanism is in the condition shown in Fig. 2. At the end of the record, a tripping arm 15 on the tone arm 3 moves a trigger 22, pivoted at 23, so that the switch blade 18 slips from a stepped member 26 thereon and closes the switch 17, 18 to start the automatic cycle. Through the medium of a link 38, the subsequent lowering of the turntable moves clockwise a lever 6, pivoted at 7, whereby the tone arm is swung outwardly and the mechanism takes up the condition shown in Fig. 5 in which the switch 17, 18 is open again ready for a further record playing. The apparatus is provided with inertia switches which in the event of the machine being jolted, close and cause an electromagnet 29 to move the trigger 22 into the tripped position, as shown in Fig. 4.
