Abstract
951,528. Valves. HYDRAULIC UNIT SPECIALTIES CO. Aug. 2, 1962 [May 2, 1962], No. 29755/62. Heading F2V. [Also in Division G3] A fluid pressure control valve has a body 5, Fig. 1, with a valve element 12, Figs. 1 and 3, movable therein to each of a pair of positions to communicate in the body either of a pair of service passages 13, 14 with a fluid supply passage 18, 23, 24 and to communicate the other service passage with a return passage 29, 22, a void control passage 34 for directly connecting the return and supply passages and a check valve 37 to open the passage 34 when the return passage pressure exceeds that of the supply passage. In the preferred embodiment, two elements 12 are slidably mounted in body sections 8, 9 assembled in stacked relationship with further sections 6, 7 so that fluid can flow from passage 18 to a passage 20 by way of an open centre passage 21 extending through all of the sections when the elements 12 are in their neutral positions. When one of the spools is moved to an operating position, it blocks the passage 21 and directs fluid from a feeder passage 23 to one of the service passages 13, 14, the other service passage being simultaneously connected through a branched passage 30 with the return passage 29. A valve 47 has a forwardly facing surface 96 which causes it to open against a spring when the pressure in the passage 20 is greater than that in the passage 20 and an adjustably spring- loaded pilot valve 97 that is depressed by a plunger 101 to open a vent 100 when the pressure in passage 29 exceeds a predetermined value. The opening of the vent 100 permits the valve 47 to open and partial obstruction of the intersection of bores 94, 99 by the plunger prevents chattering. A restricted orifice may be used in place of the valve 47. The check valve 37 may be gravity or spring-loaded and in a modification consists of a hollow spring-loaded single beat lift valve providing a seat for a separately spring-loaded single beat lift to replacing a pressure relief valve 36 in the embodiment shown.
