Abstract

950,257. Refractory bricks. OSTERREICHISCH-AMERIKANISCHE MAGNESIT A.G. Jan. 29, 1962 [Jan. 31, 1961], No. 3294/62. Heading F4B. A refractory brick comprises at least two preshaped parts of different refractory materials, preferably based on magnesite and/or chromite, lying loosely adjacent one another and extending approximately at right angles to the hot end, the parts being connected by a metal covering. As shown in Fig. 1, parts 1 and 2 are joined by U-shaped plates 3 and 7 attached by adhesive, with the interposition of a corrugated metal insert 11 which may be co-moulded with one of the parts and may then have a hanger formed integrally with or attached to it. In a modification flanges 9 and 10 may be very short and extended flanges 5 and 6 may overlap these and be spot welded thereto. Part 1 may be made of magnesia or magnesite-chrome, and part 2 of chrome-magnesite. Fig. 3 shows parts 1 and 2 with co-moulded outer plates 12 and 19 connected by plates 26 and 27 spot welded to lugs 14 and 21. A hanger 28 is engaged in a recess 30 formed in both parts 1 and 2 or the plates 12 and 19 may be formed with hanger tabs or may extend beyond the brick parts.
