Abstract
In a mixer-settler apparatus for contacting <PICT:0950214/C1/1> <PICT:0950214/C1/2> two immiscible liquids, the light phase is admitted at inlet 20 and moves in countercurrent to the heavy phase admitted at 22 and they progress through the mixing compartments 13 and settling compartments 14 to leave at outlets 23 and 21 respectively. The angled parts 16 increase the length of flow path and hence the settling time. An immersion heater 33 has a sheath which acts in addition as a baffle.
