949,731. Protective systems &c. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. Nov. 16, 1961 [Nov. 18, 1960], No. 41000/61. Heading H2K. A differential protective system for a power transformer 1 is provided with phase-sequence filters 10, 11 to segregate the positive and negative phase-sequence components of the through-current restraining-quantity and the difference operating-quantity. In the arrangement shown, the relay 33 is energized by a positive phase - sequence difference current through rectifier 32 and auxiliary transformer 24 and by a negative phase-sequence difference current through rectifier 31 and transformer 23. Similarly the relay 33 is restrained by the positive and a negative phase-sequence throughcurrent components applied through rectifiers 30, 29 and transformers 22, 21 respectively. The transformers 21, 23 have a transformation ratio twice that of the transformers 22, 24 to increase the effect of the negative phasesequence components. The filter 10 may include inductors 14, 19 and the filter 11 a capacitor 17 so that harmonics tend to increase the restraining components. Reference is also made to the use of an A.C. relay or a valve or transistor circuit instead of a D.C. relay.
