Abstract

In a method of recovering from the pickling liquid of a pickling plant the acid carried along with the pickled product, the latter is rinsed with a sufficient quantity of water to obtain a substantially complete elimination of the acid, the rinsing liquid thus obtained being concentrated in an evaporator by indirect heating and returned to the pickling vats whilst the steam produced by the evaporator is used as heating steam. As shown, strip A is pickled in vats a-d, while the acid flows in countercurrent relationship from vat d to vat a. The pickled strip is rinsed by spray nozzles 3 fed from rinsing vat 1, then by immersion in vat 1, then by device 4, and finally by device 7. Rinsing liquid from vat 1 is fed through line 11 to evaporator 8 (if desired, the evaporator may also be supplied with liquid from the iron salts separating apparatus 13). The resulting steam and concentrated liquid are separated in unit 9, the former being passed through line 14 to vats a-d as a direct heating medium while the latter is introduced into vat d through line 12. <PICT:0949680/C3/1>
