949,652. Inflatable mattresses. A. M. HAMILTON. Dec. 27, 1962 [Dec. 27, 1961], No. 46308/61. Heading A4M. A mattress having sections 1, 2 each connected to a common air duct 3, 4 respectively which are connected in alternation to an air pressure line 5 and a suction line 6 to periodically inflate and deflate the mattress sections has the inflation and deflation controlled by means comprising slowly turning cam devices 7, 7<SP>1</SP> which alternately squeeze and release lengths 10 . . . 13 of flexible soft rubber tubing connected between ducts 3, 4 and lines 5, 6. In a modification Figs. 3, 4 a single cam 7 acts upon the tubes 10 . . . 13 through presser plates 14, 15 guided for transverse movement in guides 16 in housing 8. If the mattress is of a material such that there is constant slow leakage from sections 1, 2 the return side 6, 11 12 of the air circuit can be dispensed with. The mattress may have outer sections permanently inflated or filled with sponge rubber to prevent the patient rolling off.
