Abstract

949,329. Pipe insulation. BELL'S ASBESTOS & ENGINEERING Ltd. March 16, 1962 [May 1, 1961], No. 15657/61. Heading F2P. Thermal insulation for pipes comprises a sheet 1 of flexible insulation material having regularly spaced depressions in one surface thereof which extend part of the way through the thickness thereof and having bonded to the other surface an outer cover 9 of flexible synthetic plastics material which has, on both longitudinal edges, means which are capable of joining said longitudinal edges, so that when the sheet is wrapped around a pipe 5, the depressions are closed or partly closed by the curvature of the sheet and the sheet is held in position by the said means. As shown, the insulation is in the form of a flat sheet 1 of foamed polyurethane, one surface of which has a plurality of depressions in the form of regularly spaced, longitudinally extending, grooves of convoluted or truncated V-section. In a modification, the surface of the sheet has depressions to define a plurality of frustopyramids 4.
