Abstract
<PICT:0948734/C3/1> In gas making plant in which during a gas making phase steam fed in at 5 passes up through a regenerator 10 on which a liquid hydrocarbon is sprayed at 18 the resulting mixture of steam, hydrocarbon vapour and cracked gases passing through a catalyst chamber 2 and then through a second regenerator 3 whereas during the subsequent plant heating phase air is passed through regenerator 3, chamber 2 and regenerator 10 in the opposite direction to that followed by the make gases, the checkers at the top of regenerator 10 comprise open hollow bodies of heat-resisting steel. The steel may contain 25-30% of chromium. Specification 845,189 is referred to.
