A rollerless transmission chain consists of uniform diameter pivot pins 2 secured to the link plates 1 of outer links of the chain and rotatable in bushes 6 secured to the link plates 5 of inner links of the chain. The invention is characterized by the following dimensional restrictions, P being the chain pitch: diameter of pins=0.36P; outer diameter of sprocket-engaging part of bushes=0.56P; outer diameter of inner-link-engaging part of bushes =0.48P; thickness of link plates=0.15625P; all the dimensions quoted leaving a tolerance of Œ0.005 inch. The Specification also gives preferred values for other dimensions of the chain which are such that the cross-sectional area of each link plate at its thinnest portion 8 mid-way between the pivot axes is the same as its cross-sectional area on these axes.
