Abstract

947,100. Froth flotation apparatus. SIMON-CARVES Ltd. Aug. 30, 1962 [Sept. 29, 1961], No. 35132/61. Heading B2H. A liquid-treatment vessel has means for separating froth from the effluent of a liquid contained in it in the form of a froth discharge aperture 17 above the liquid level, an effluent discharge aperture 15, means 13 causing circulation of the upper region of the liquid and a baffle 21 which prevents escape of froth through the aperture 15 and has its lower and upper edges respectively extending below the liquid level and above the froth level. The circulator 13, which may be of the type described in Specification 919,467, simultaneously causes aeration and frothing of the liquid to enable suspended solids or immiscible liquids contained therein to be separated from the liquid by froth flotation. The liquid to be treated enters the vessel through an inlet 12 and the froth and the treated liquid removed through the respective apertures which are provided with adjustable weirs 16, 19, the baffle 21 being in the form of a channel as shown in Fig. 2 ; the froth and treated liquid are then led away through respective tanks 23, 24 which are provided with outlet pipes 25, 26. A foaming agent is added to the liquid under treatment if necessary.
