Abstract

A solid shaped animal feeding composition comprises a solid, substantially homogeneous admixture of glucose or other crystallizable supar in an amount of at least 75% by weight, and one or more condiments, i.e. natural or synthetic odoriferous substances attractive to animals by reason of odour and preferably also appetite stimulating, in amount suitably from 0.1% to 1% in the case of oils or extracts, and from 1% to 10% in the case of powdered roots or seeds, e.g. seeds such as dill, anise, fenugreek, caraway, fennel, cummin and coriander, and roots such as ginger and liquorice, flavours such as anethole and butyric, valeric and caproic acid esters. The composition may include 2 to 15% by weight of one or more growth factors, as described in Specification 945,982, e.g. anti-biotics, yeast, corn steep liquor, distillers' solubles, with or without one or more mineral additives, e.g. compounds of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, chlorine and iron, and/or trace elements as described in Specification 945,984, e.g. manganese copper, cobalt and iodine. Solution inhibitors, e.g. chalk with or without gums, alginates or pectins may also be incorporated, as described in Specifications 938,921 and 945,981.
