Abstract

945,515. Axle-box bearings. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIVUND MASCRINENFABBIK. March 14, 1961 [March 18, 1960], No. 9380/61. Addition to 793,918. Heading F2A. A modification of the axle-box bearing arrangement described in the parent Specification comprises two sleeves 10 and 13, the outer sleeve 10 being connected to the inner race of ball-bearing 6 and to a splined portion 12 of the inner sleeve 13. The sleeve 13 carries the resetting spring 16 and is housed in an axial bore at the end of axle journal 2. The inner end of the sleeve 13 is provided with splines 17 which engage in ring 18 in the axle bore and rotate therewith. The spring 16 is pretensioned between collar 14 and the flange 11 by securing nut 15. Any movement of the axle towards the left is resisted by the spring compression between the flange 11 and the collar 14 with subsequent tendency for restoration, but in this one direction only. A further embodiment provides for restoration of axle displacement in either direction.
