Abstract
945,467. Microscope objectives. C. BAKER INSTRUMENTS Ltd., and MICHAEL GRANT LEES CURTES. Feb. 5, 1960 [Nov. 7, 1958], No. 35866/58. Heading G2J. A microscope objective includes spherical refracting surfaces adapted to provide a flat image field but with wave-front aberrations (e.g. spherical aberration) exceeding the Rayleigh limit, and at least one aspherical refracting surface adapted to bring said aberrations within the said limit. As shown, the objective comprises a positive system 11 and a negative system 17 which have spherical surfaces giving a flat image field. In this objective, an aspherical refracting surface is provided by a layer deposited as by the process described in Specification 791, 286 on the spherical surface 23 of the positive system 11 to bring the wave-front aberration within the Rayleigh limit.
