Abstract
A dialkyl sulphoxide is added to a polymer-compounding agent Specified polymer-compounding agents are vulcanising agents, accelerators, stabilizers, dispersants, plasticizers, pigments reinforcing agents, fillers, ultra violet screening agents, and mixtures thereof. Specified polymers are polyethylene, polystyrene, polyesters, smoked natural rubber and polyvinyl chloride.ALSO:A dialkyl sulphoxide is added to a dyestuff or pigment Preferred sulphoxides are those in which the alkyl groups contain up to 8 carbon atoms, e.g. dimethyl and diethyl sulphoxides. In Examples (III), 15 parts of Zulu Green Colour Index No. 74260 was admixed with 85 parts of diethyl sulphoxide and the mixture ground in a ball mill until a uniform dispersion was produced and (IV) 50 parts of Cadmium-Selenide Red, Colour Index No. 77196 and 50 parts of dimethyl sulphoxide were similarly admixed. Other examples refer to Kiton Fast Yellow and Methylene Blue.ALSO:A dialkyl sulphoxide is added to a pesticide, insecticide, bactericide, or herbicide. The sulphoxides may be used as the sole carriers for the agent or they may be diluted with water, alcohol or other solvent. Preferred sulphoxides are those in which the alkyl groups contain up to 8 carbon atoms, e.g. dimethyl sulphoxide and di-n-butyl sulphoxide. In examples: (XIV) 50 parts of the insecticide trichloromethoxyphenylethane are mixed with 100 parts of dimethyl sulphoxide; (XV) 10 parts of the bactericide 2-21-dihydroxy-5,51-dichloro-diphenyl-methane are mixed with 90 parts di-n-butyl sulphoxide; (XVII) 100 parts of the herbicide 3-amino-1,2,4-triazolene mixed with 100 parts dimethylsulphoxide and may, on dilution with water, be used as a herbicidal spray.
