945,225. Electric motors. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Nov. 8, 1961 [Nov. 9, 1960], No. 39937/61. Heading H2A. In an electric motor comprising a rotor and a stator separated by an air gap, a polyphase winding is arranged on either the stator or rotor one of which is provided with salient poles while helical grooves facing each other across the air gap and running parallel to each other are formed in both the rotor and stator cores. Preferably the stator is provided with a three phase winding and the rotor with the salient poles 3. Upon the energization of the stator windings with direct current the rotor, for example arranged vertically, is locked in position with respect to the stator. When the energization is changed to a low-frequency three-phase alternating current the stator rotor rotates in synchronism therewith screwing into or out of the stator a predetermined amount with each rotation. Hence by application of a predetermined number of cycles of the alternating current the rotor can be moved axially a predetermined distance, for example to adjust the position of the control rods in a nuclear reactor. It is stated that alternatively the rotor may surround the stator.
