Abstract

945,175. Mowing machines. J. H. POSTLEWAIT. April 27, 1961, No. 15275/61. Heading A1F. In a lawnmower of the type having a rotary reel 20 but no ledger-blade, the reel is formed by a thin-walled tube 21 having elongated angle-members 22 extending along its length, each anglemember being sharpened to an edge 27 which extends at an obtuse angle to a fastening limb 23 secured to the tube. The limbs 23 may be spot-welded or bolted to the tube 21 which terminates in end-discs, one of which 32 (Fig. 5) has an integral pulley 40 to receive the belt-drive 15 from a motor 12 on the frame 1, the motor being either internalcombustion or electric. The end-discs have axial bores 41, 43 to receive ballbearings 47 which run on stub-axles 49 secured to the side-plates 3 of the machine. The machine is mounted on front and rear pairs of wheels 7, 5, either or both pairs being adjustably mounted in holes such as 59 in the side-plates 3.
