Abstract
944,899. Forced flow steam boilers; feedwater supply systems. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. March 20, 1962 [March 24, 1961], No. 10616/62. Heading F4A. A forced recirculation steam generator is provided with a reciprocating pump 9 which serves as a feed pump and as a circulation pump in dependence upon the open or closed position of an electrically operated valve 23. With valve 23 closed, feedwater is drawn through non-return valve 35 from feed tank 1 and delivered through non-return valve 37, line 10, mixer 11 and steam generating tube bank 12 to separator 13. When the level in the separator reaches an upper limit valve 23 is opened by regulator 28 and circulation of water commences through line 16, non-return valves 35<SP>1</SP>, 36<SP>1</SP> , line 24, mixer 11 and tube bank 12. The pressure in the system maintains valve 35 in the closed position. Circulation continues till the lower limit of level is reached in the separator 13 when valve 23 is again closed. The mixer vessel 11 receives alternately cold or hot water resulting in a precipitation of salts which may be removed from the system by means of blow-down line 25.
