Abstract

Impurities, e.g. CO2 and H2O, are removed from air by passing the air through an absorbent capable of taking up the impurities and regenerating the absorbent by heating to drive off the impurities, at least part of the heating being effected by high frequency dielectric losses. The absorbent may be a silicate, e.g. a synthetic crystalline alumino-silicate activated by heating. The CO2 may be desorbed from the absorbent by dielectric heating and the residual moisture removed by a current of hot air. The absorbent may be cooled during the adsorption by cooling the air containing CO2 and using a cold water circulation.
