Abstract
943,837. Radio signalling. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 24, 1960 [March 7, 1959], No. 7966/59. Heading H4L. Television or other amplitude modulated R.F. signals are transmitted to a receiver sited near a satellite transmitting station and at the receiver, after frequency reduction, the I.F. acting as a subcarrier frequency modulates a UHF carrier which is by a directional radio link transmitted to the satellite station. The latter has a filter 6 suppressing one sideband of the received carrier whose output being then amplitude as well as frequency modulated, is detected by an amplitude detector 7 to derive the amplitude modulated I.F. subcarrier. The latter may then be transposed up in frequency and transmitted from the satellite transmitter. The output of the single sideband filter 6 may be reduced in frequency by a local oscillator 13 and the I.F. amplified by tubes having in their anode circuits a pair of circuits in series respectively tuned to the I.F. and to the sideband frequency spaced from the I.F. by the amplitude modulated subcarrier frequency. The I.F. may also be applied to a filter 14 energizing an amplitude detector 15 and frequency discriminator 16 and respectively producing A.G.C. and A.F.C. control voltages. Several subcarriers may be used to produce multiplexing. Further, the sideband filter 6 may be located at the receiver sited near the satellite station so that only one sideband of the FM link is used.
