Abstract

943,728. Stoppers. M. B. STULL. June 21, 1962 [June 22, 1961], No. 23934/62. Heading B8T. A polyethylene two-position closure comprises a resilient orifice member 10 and a stopper member 12 provided with co-operable annular beads 40 and 54, 55 respectively for holding the stopper 12 in either of two closing positions, the bead 54 providing a stronger detent action than the bead 55 and thus holding the stopper 12 more securely on the orifice member 10. The member 10 is formed with external annular beads which provide a groove 32 to accommodate the rolled edge of a container 16. The container is further seated by a skirt 56, depending from the top wall 50 of the stopper 12, which is received within the restricted throat 36 of the member 10. In a modification, Fig. 3, the orifice member is constituted by the neck 65 of the container, a bead 72 being formed on the neck 65 to co-operate with either of the annular beads 88, 94. A tab 84 on the stopper is adjacent to the shoulder 68 of the container when the stopper is in the tighter closing position so that initial removal of the stopper is made increasingly difficult. In a further embodiment one of the annular beads on the stopper member is replaced by a second bead on the orifice member.
