Abstract

943,573. Blow-moulding articles. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Aug. 23, 1962 [Jan. 29, 1962], No. 3316/62. Heading B5A. In the blow moulding of hollow articles from continuously extruded thermoplastic tubing, the tube portion nearest the die is gathered radially about the axis of extrusion, during the closing of the mould halves 3, 4, to seal the end of the tube which is then pressed against the mould by a tubular member 30, movable relative to the mould, before the final blow moulding of the article by fluid under pressure admitted through the tubular member 30. The tube sealing device comprises two pairs of cutter elements secured to the mould halves 3, 4 which are carried by a support 5 reciprocable between the die and a position remote therefrom. While the shoulder portion 36 is being inserted into the neck 6 of the mould a flow of air, to lubricate the tube, passes through the shoulder 36 from a tubular member 26 which also encases the member 30.
