A packaging container is formed from three or more flexible skins, one inside another, and valve means for filling the spaces between adjacent skins with gaseous, liquid or powdery substances. In Fig. 2, the container, e.g. for an instrument, comprises four rubber or plastics skins 1a . . . 1d with spaces 4 ... 6 adapted to be inflated through a single valve 7 or separate valves. The skins may be of increasing rigidity from inside to outside and the spaces 4 ... 6 may be filled with the same or different substances, e.g. spaces 4, 5, 6 may be filled respectively, with air, liquid and powder. The top 1<SP>1</SP> of the container may be fastened by a zipfastener 2; alternatively, the top may have projections 11a which are fitted between corresponding projections 11b on the walls when the walls are partly inflated, the completion of inflation ensuring a tight seal between the projections. The outermost skin may be reinforced by glass fibre or metal mesh. A recess 9 in the top 11 may be covered with transparent material.
