Abstract

Crystalline polymers and copolymers of aldehydes are stabilized by acylating the polymer, in dispersion or in suspension, in a liquid medium under high pressure and at ambient temperature. Acetaldehyde is the specified aldehyde and acetic anhydride the acetylation agent. The treatment under pressure may last several hours after which the polymer is decanted, filtered, washed either with an aqueous alkaline solution or with petroleum ether and dried.
